| Well, looks like the engine is coming out again. I bought this engine dressup kit (chrome caps, dipstick) a few years back when I started gathering parts for my build. Can't remember if I bought it from COZ (prety sure he used to sell these for Dave) or from Aruba Dave directly, but that's here nor there. Quick background, I went to start my car after a long cold Chicago winter a few weeks ago, and it just cranked and cranked. Checked out quite a few things (as well as hooked up the Blazt setup) to find nothing going on that should cause this issue. Well, today I decided to dig back in and check fuel pressure/boost leaks. Both were fine (minor boost leak, but that was not the problem), so I turned to some deeper trouble shooting. I decided that I was going to yank the plenum and take a look at the fuel rail, see if some bad fuel got me and gummed up a few injectors. I was disconnecting lines, pulled my dipstick...this is what came out: /Misc/zOpt_STA71416.jpeg)

Let it be known, I am NOT blaming COZ or Dave for this issue. Clearly, the screw that holds the wire to the butt backed out. I do have to admit that I am pretty unhappy about the fact this happened, but not much I can do about it now.
I have about 1700 miles on the car since the build and since this dipstick was put in, at that time I made damn sure the screw was tight. So, if you own a set of these dressup caps be absolutely sure to keep an eye on that screw. Expecting the worst when I pull, hoping for the best.
White wheels are getting painted silver this winter. |
